Who’s it for?

Anyone qualified, or about to qualify in massage or sports massage, looking to refresh and re-enforce their skills or learn new ones.

Joint assessments are a recognised National Occupational Standard (NOS) for sports massage as set out by Skills Active. (D522)

Where you’ll train
UKFor this workshop we’re at the British School of Osteopathy (BSO)Teaching Centre.

You can take this workshop as a stand-alone day or in conjunction with our Postural Assessment and Postural Correction.

A comprehensive workbook accompanies the day and a certificate of attendance is awarded. In addition to this, we automatically and informally assess all attendees. This ensures that you have reached a good understanding of the subject and are able to apply techniques safely and effectively.

What you’ll learn:
Workshop snapshot

Do you want to be confident at assessing joints? Do you want to know how you differentiate between problems at the joint versus muscle? With Jane Johnson, Chartered Physiotherapist, you'll cover all the major joints on the body.

What you’ll learn:
The big picture

Learn to assess joints of:
Shoulder
Hip & Thigh
Knee
Ankle
Elbow, Wrist & Hand
Spine

With the exception of the spine we will use active and passive movements to test range of movement (ROM) of joints. We will also include some muscle length testing such as The Thomas Test, Ober Test and Straight Leg Raise as well as some tests specific to certain joints such as the 'painful arc' and Empty Can test at the shoulder. Knee tests include the Clark's test and tests to differentiate between collateral ligaments, cruciate ligaments and menisci.
