Accredited by the FHT and STO - Advanced Training, 5 credits.

Anyone qualified, or about to qualify in massage or sports massage, looking to refresh and re-enforce their skills or learn new ones. Especially relevant to those of you who treat runners.

UKFor this workshop we’re at the British School of Osteopathy (BSO)Teaching Centre.

Attendees receive a comprehensive workbook and certificate of attendance and are informally assessed to ensure competency.

On this two-day workshop Jane Johnson, Chartered Physiotherapist will teach you how to effectively assess and treat the most common pathologies of the hip and thigh region.

What you'll learn:
The big picture

A brief review of the anatomy of the hip and thigh
Palpating common landmarks of the hip and thigh (eg. ASIS, AIIS, PSIS, ischium) plus relevant muscles and tendons

Assessment tools
Testing hamstring length
Common testing errors
Differentiating between muscle tensions
Testing hip flexors (Thomas Test) and differentiating between ilopsoas and rectus femoris tension
Postural assessment relevant to the hip and thigh
Relevance of increased lordosis to hamstring length and tension
Identifying imbalances between ITB and adductors
Identification of imbalances between internal and external hip rotators
Palpation of common trigger points

Tendinopathies
Muscle tightness
Piriformis Syndrome (and 'myths' regarding piriformis)

Deep tissue massage techniques using forearms and fists including transverse fibre work and longitudinal stripping, STR, MET and passive stretches
