Who's it for?

Accredited by the FHT and STO - Advanced Training, 5 credits.

Anyone qualified, or about to qualify in massage or sports massage, sports rehabilitation, sports therapy, fitness instruction, physiotherapy, chiropractic or osteopathy, looking to refresh and re-enforce their skills or learn new ones.

MET is a recognised National Occupational Standard (NOS) for sports massage as set out by Skills Active. (D522)

Attendees receive a comprehensive workbook and certificate of attendance and are informally assessed to ensure competency.

What you'll learn:
Workshop snapshot

Muscle Energy Technique (MET) is a method of stretching muscles that is widely used by sports massage therapists and fitness instructors. Similar to Proprioreceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) this technique is gentle, yet hugely effective.

Used gently, MET may be used as part of a rehabilitation programme following injury and is therefore of particular interest to therapists working with clients to help them recover from common musculoskeletal injuries such as sprains and fractures. It is also a valuable tool for helping to improve the strength of clients with weak muscles.

The big picture

With Jane Johnson, Chartered Physiotherapist, learn to perform MET on muscles all over the body, in supine, prone and sitting, and see how this facilitates an increase in joint range and lengthening of muscle tissue.

Learn how to use MET for clients with a stiff neck, tight pectorals, tight hip flexors, calves, and hamstrings.

Use it on the upper limbs following immobilisation, or for treating clients with adhesive capsulitis.
